Daytime television is about to make history with the debut of Beyond the Gates, CBS/Paramount’s highly anticipated soap opera premiering on February 24, 2025. The series is notable for being the first daytime drama with a predominantly Black cast since NBC’s Generations aired from 1989 to 1991. At its core, Beyond the Gates tells the captivating story of the Dupree family, a wealthy African American household living in Maryland’s exclusive Fairmont Estates, a gated community near Washington, D.C.
Created by Michele Val Jean, an Emmy Award-winning writer known for her work on The Bold and the Beautiful, Generations, Ambitions, and Port Charles, the series promises to explore family dynamics, power struggles, and secrets within the Dupree family. Val Jean’s creative vision aims to portray a side of Black life not often seen in daytime television, focusing on affluence, ambition, and the complexities that come with both.
The Dupree family is brought to life by a stellar cast, including Clifton Davis as Vernon Dupree, a retired senator; Tamara Tunie as Anita Dupree, a former singer and the family matriarch; Daphnée Duplaix as Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, a prominent psychiatrist and philanthropist; and Karla Mosley as Danielle “Dani” Dupree, a former model turned “momager.”
Production began in November 2024 at Assembly Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with the series produced in collaboration with CBS Studios, the NAACP, and Procter & Gamble Studios. To build anticipation, CBS is airing a five-part behind-the-scenes special, Beyond the Gates: Welcome to the Neighborhood, from February 17 to February 21, offering audiences a closer look at the making of this groundbreaking series.
Beyond the Gates is set to deliver compelling storytelling that resonates with viewers while marking a significant milestone in daytime television representation. With its layered characters and engaging plotlines, the series promises to be a must-watch for soap opera fans and new audiences alike.
