I need everyone to stop what they are doing and listen to the amazing artist named Zaniah. She is a breath of fresh air in music. She’s had several amazing singles, such as “Moon” and “Coffee Bean”, but this new song might just be my favorite.
“Privacy.”
This song starts with Zaniah saying that it’s crazy how she was tiptoeing at first, but now she’s marching as loud as ever and feeling proud about it! She talks about picking herself up because she can’t stay down, and is proud about it as that hasn’t always been easy for her. Time always heals, and she can’t deny who she is as a person. She calls herself, “divine like a summer’s breeze”, and that is such a beautiful line. As I said, she truly is a breath of fresh air.
She smiles at the haters and focuses on her own life while saying that she’s at her best when no one is watching her, and she needs privacy. This makes me happier than y’all can imagine. Zaniah isn’t hiding from the world, but she knows she needs to step away from the world for a while to be her best self.
Verse 2.
The words she chooses for the second verse are powerful. She starts with “shining”, then says, “vibing” next. In my opinion, this strengthens the point that she’s at her best when she’s away from the world. She’s “shining” like a star when no one is looking, but that also means that she’s relaxed and “vibing” while she’s shining bright.
This doesn’t mean that she’s not confident. She talks about how divine she is, and how she doesn’t need guidance, but one of my favorite lines? “No one can provide for me”. I love this, because while many will assume financial providing, I believe she is talking about emotional providing.
Why?
This whole song is about her being confident in herself and her emotions. There are many times when we think that a partner can emotionally provide something for us that we don’t have in ourselves, and I feel that Zaniah is admonishing that. She’s saying that “no one provides emotional stability for me, but we can come together and be stronger as a couple. My point is strengthened by the next line, “I could give you life, like a summer’s breeze”. Also, Zaniah is such an introspective soul, so I believe she’d want us to interpret it as something different than just material or financial matters.
Overall.
I feel (unapologetically) nerdy talking about certain songs because it’s obvious that I want to keep talking about them! “Privacy” is so beautiful. It is a song that should speak to all introverts around the world. If you feel like you’re lacking confidence due to being introverted, just throw this on and you’ll realize how much you love yourself.
