Meet Creator and Executive Producer of NBC's Found - Nkechi Okoro Carroll

Black women in Hollywood are still hugely underestimated—so much so that we often don’t even know the names of the incredible creatives behind the stories that move us. Nkechi Okoro Carroll is one of those visionaries. I’ve rewatched All American seasons 1 through 6 five times (yes, five times!) because it’s just that good, and Found (check out a snippet in the video) has officially become a date-night-in staple for me and my husband. These shows aren’t just entertainment—they’re heartfelt, complex, and culturally relevant, all thanks to Carroll’s storytelling genius. As the showrunner and executive producer of All American, All American: Homecoming, and Found, she’s creating narratives that resonate deeply, and doing it with authenticity, emotion, and power. Not to mention she’s worked on television shows like Rosewood, Bones, and The Resident.

What makes her rise even more impressive is the path she took to get here. Nkechi was born in Nigeria and raised across several countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United Kingdom, and the United States, giving her a multicultural lens that subtly enriches her work. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s in International Economics from NYU. Before entering the entertainment industry, she worked at the Federal Reserve, building a successful career in finance. But the creative pull was too strong to ignore. Eventually, she made the bold leap into film and television—a move that clearly paid off. Now, she’s not only crafting some of the most compelling dramas on TV but also carving out space for more Black women to lead and thrive in the industry.
